Here’s what we’ve been listening to lately…
More to follow as we learn how to work the Internet for music.
Zen Baboon:

Both portuguese Daniel Rosado and Henrique Palhavã were born in the 70`s and got together in 2003 to melt down their musical preferences and create Zen Baboon. After 6 years, the project is an example of what you can do working basically apart and with the same software. Lovely ambient sounds and interweaving melodies.

Imogen Heap:

In an age where technology has brought artists closer to their fans than ever before, Imogen Heap has taken things to a whole new level. She’s a curious one. The London-based singer/songwriter is Grammy nominated and hugely successful in the US (it’s likely that, if you’ve seen any US television programme over the last few years, you’ll have heard her song Hide and Seek). An Alanis Morrisette for the digital generation with 40 million plays on Myspace, Imogen Heap has so far left the mainstream music charts untroubled. Grand cellos and choral sighs are layered against electro bleeps and Heap’s percussive voice that moves from soft lilt to glottal stop. Found sounds – from a crackling fire to running water in a shower – are sculpted by Heap into complex soundscapes. The symphonic wash of these compositions could be dismissed as background music, but her inventive writing and varied voice demand otherwise.

Funk D’Void

Lars Sandberg AKA Funk D’Void, is a DJ and producer who has been at the forefront of the global electronic music scene since the mid-90s. He started Djing at around the tender age of 15, running two under-18 clubs himself – a perfect start to his career. Knowing his vocation to music from an early age after being brought up by his professional pianist mother, Lars never had any doubt as to where his future would lie.
House music changed his life, the early Chicago sound specifically, and hearing the certain sounds during his childhood stirred something inside him; the 808 drum machine used on Marvin Gaye’s “Sexual Healing” secured his fascination with these electronic sounds – the turning point over to the Detroit techno sound was almost a spiritual moment as it forged his unique sound that would follow over the coming years – visceral, soulful and without compromise.

SHOW-B

SHOW-B is a German artist making a triumphal procession through the heaven of arrangements and the musically modernistic housemusic. With his background as a DJ, his music is not always only dance-oriented, it is definitely treading in its own new paths. Complex, but fleet-footed, his rhythmic structures produce a soulful symbiosis with the music of long-gone times of dance music. Traditional elements, such as Flutes or Rhodes unite with sub basses, crisp kick drums and detriotesque bass lines, culminating in SHOW-B’s own definition of house.
